Affordable Care Act Deadlines for 2014

The deadlines under the Affordable Care Act have been somewhat of a moving target with all the extensions. But as of December 2014, here are some of the upcoming deadlines:
1/1/14 – Affordable Care Act goes into effect requiring individuals to have health insurance and requiring businesses with 50 or more full-time equivalent employees to offer health insurance to its employees who work 30 or more hours on average. However, the penalty for employer non-compliance has been delayed until 2015.
3/31/14 – The deadline for individuals to obtain insurance coverage. This is the deadline after extension.
11/15/14 – Open enrollment for coverage through the healthcare exchange opens. This is the deadline after extension.
11/14 – The healthcare exchange for small business (under 50 employees) enrollment is expected to open.
1/15/15 – Open enrollment for 2015 coverage through the healthcare exchange closes. This is the delayed deadline.
